The Seattle Seahawks have brought back a familiar face to add depth to their secondary.

The Seahawks have signed CB Phillip Adams to a one-year deal. It was first reported by Ian Raporport of the NFL Network.

Adams spent time with Seattle in 2011 and throughout the 2012 offseason before being released at the end of training camp. He was claimed off waivers by the Oakland Raiders and appeared 31 games over the past two seasons.

The signing of Adams helps bolster depth at the cornerback position for Seattle, which has taken a hit with CB Brandon Browner signing with the New England Patriots and CB Walter Thurmond signing with the New York Giants.

He also could get a chance as a punt returner for Seattle. Adams returned 33 punts for 198 yards over the last two years in Oakland. The Seahawks are in search of a new punt returner as WR Golden Tate signed with the Detroit Lions.

The Seahawks have always thought highly of Adams. However, he was just buried on their depth chart when with the team previously. In 2011, Seattle's cornerback position included Browner, Thurmond, CB Richard Sherman, CB Byron Maxwell, CB Marcus Trufant, CB Roy Lewis, CB Ron Parker and CB Kennard Cox.

That depth has been thinned through free agency and Adams has a chance to return to Seattle as a bigger contributor next season.

Adams joins Sherman, Maxwell, CB Jeremy Lane, CB Tharold Simon, CB Chandler Fenner and CB Akeem Auguste at the cornerback position for Seattle.
