RENTON - LB Bruce Irvin is excited the to join a "scary" pass rush after missing the first four games of the season due to suspension.

Irvin is back with the team after spending the last four weeks working out at West Virginia University while serving a suspension for a violation of the league's performance-enhancing drugs policy.

"My smile explains everything," Irvin said. "It feels great. It was tough watching these guys for four weeks, but I paid my debt to society, now it’s time to get back to work."

Irvin dealt with a groin injury during training camp that forced him to miss the first two preseason games. He was limited to just seven snaps in the third preseason game against the Green Bay Packers before getting to play significant snaps in the preseason finale against the Oakland Raiders.

"It's just like having a new toy. It's really exciting. We're going to put him right in there and see him right away," linebackers coach Ken Norton Jr. said. "There's no waiting. He's just going to jump right in there and play and we're really excited to get him going."

But with the position switch to strong-side linebacker, Irvin is still developing at his new position. The missed time didn't help either, but Norton says he has no doubts that Irvin can provide an immediate impact.

"Absolutely! That's Bruce Irvin! Are you kidding me? He's a first-round pick. That guy does everything," Norton said. "...We're really excited. He's going to do it all."

Norton said for his first day back, Irvin had "a really good day one."

Irvin said it was tough to watch the team the first month of the season play without him. He said he talked with LB Bobby Wagner and joked "y'all don't even need me" because of how well they've played so far this season. Still, he's excited to get back on the field and contribute to the lineup.

"Mentally I feel like I’m ready, physically I’m ready," Irvin said. "If you have four weeks to chill you better be ready. I’m itching right now, I’ve been itching for the past four weeks. I’m just honored that Coach Pete Carroll has welcomed me back, and I’m just going to keep my nose clean form here on out and just play football."

Irvin led all rookies with eight sacks last season.

Roster Moves:

The Seahawks made a bit of a surprising change to their roster on Wednesday, claiming QB B.J. Daniels off waivers from the San Francisco 49ers.

Daniels is a rookie out of the University of South Florida and spent all of training camp with the 49ers. He was released by the team on Tuesday and the 49ers had hoped to get him back onto their practice squad. Seattle didn't let that happen by claiming him off waivers.

To make room for Daniels on their roster, the Seahawks waived LB John Lotulelei. It would be a surprise if Lotulelei goes unclaimed off waivers. Jacksonville, with former Seahawks defensive coordinator Gus Bradley as head coach, or Arizona, who have lost four linebackers to injury in recent weeks, would seem to be possible destinations.

In addition, the team released TE Jameson Konz from the practice squad and re-signed WR Arceto Clark.
