MARINERS SUFFER FIRST SPRING LOSS 6-3 VS. INDIANS Dustin Ackley goes 2-for-3 with a home run and 2 RBI.

Mariners left fielder Dustin Ackley went 2-for-3 with a home run and 2 RBI in the loss.

 

Mariners starter Randy Wolf threw 2.0 scoreless innings, allowing one hit and one walk, with one strikeout. It was the left-handers first pitching appearance since returning from Tommy John surgery on his left elbow. Mariners starting pitchers have yet to allow a run this spring in four games (8.0 innings).

 

The Mariners jumped out to an early 1-0 lead in the first inning. Abraham Almonte doubled to right field to lead off the game, moved to third on a fly ball, and scored on a Robinson Cano groundout.

 

Ackley extended the lead with a tape-measure 2-run home run off the center field batter’s eye in the 4th inning.

 

The Indians tied the game with three runs in the bottom of the 5th inning. Jason Kipnis drove in a run with a triple down the right field line and the tying run crossed the plate on an error by Gabriel Noriega.

 

The Indians took the lead for good with a 2-out, 2-run home run by Lindor off relief pitcher Logan Bawcom (0-1).

 

The Mariners (3-1) continue Cactus League play tomorrow with a pair of games in split-squad action. The Mariners host the Rockies at Peoria Stadium (710 ESPN) and travel to play the Reds at Goodyear Ballpark. Both games begin at 1:05 pm MT/12:05 pm PT. RH Erasmo Ramirez (1-0, 0.00) will start vs. Rockies LH Brett Anderson, and RH Blake Beavan (0-0, 0.00) will go against Reds RH Alfredo Simon.
